On Friday, Data center operator Digital Realty Trust (DRT) said that it has begun building a customized data center facility for financial services institution HSBC.

Located in suburban London, U.K., the new data center is being put together on a development site that was acquired by DRT in April of last year. The project is expected to be completed for November of this year.

Chris Crosby, senior vice president of Digital Realty Trust said "we are very pleased to be HSBC's partner in this major project, which will serve as the cornerstone of its IT infrastructure in the London market."

Crosby added "this project reflects our unique approach to partnering with companies on customized data centers, offering them control and flexibility while making these large projects very cost-effective."

HSBC and DRT have signed a long-term lease agreement for the facility.

The two companies have worked closely together in developing its specifications to support HSBC's security requirements, environmental goals and many other technical and business needs.

Seperately, last week Digital Realty Trust announced it had signed two major leases totaling approximately 210,500 square feet at projects in Santa Clara, California and Dublin, Ireland.
