Some hosting providers are starting to announce that they will soon offer IPv6 connectivity to their clients. One such provider is Verio. On Nov. 28, the company announced that it will offer Internet Protocol version 6 connectivity for customers and solution partners using Verio's VPS (virtual private server) and managed private server hosting solutions.

Overall, Verio says this is a managed commercial service for North America and its IPv6-enabled hosting services will help businesses, government agencies and educational institutions use VPS and MPS for IPv6 network testing.

Verio also said its new IPv6 product will enable customers and application development professionals in upgrading IT infrastructures to the next generation protocol for the Internet.

Kiyoshi Maeda, president and chief executive officer for Verio said "together with NTT Communications, Verio has shown a strong commitment to IPv6 since 1996 when NTT Labs started one of the world's largest IPv6 research networks."

Maeda added "Verio believes the time is imminent for businesses in North America to begin planning for a transition to IPv6. Our virtual and managed server solutions offer a fully-managed platform for these businesses to test IPv6 with no risk for a gradual transition from IPv4."

Globally, the general availability of Internet IPv4 addresses are slowly diminishing, which is generating a strong demand for IPv6 connectivity in Asia and Europe, with North America to follow in the coming years, according to various industry reports.

Verio said it is offering IPv6 immediately for all new Free BSD-based VPS v3 and MPS v3 hosting solutions at no additional cost.
