PlanetDomain is acquired by NetRegistryAdd to February 20, 2007 Domain registrar NetRegistry announced yesterday that it has acquired the assets of domain registrar PlanetDomain from Primus Telecommunications for over $8 million. The transaction was funded with cash and debt. Overall, PlanetDomain is a top five Australian domain registrar serving over 100,000 domestic and international users. The company is profitable and will continue to be managed by its current staff in Melbourne, Australia. NetRegistry is the second largest Australian domain registrar and has over 150,000 SME customers. The company says it was placed third globally in a recent international evaluation ranking the quality of customer service of the world's 50 largest registrars. "NetRegistry now dominates the Australian market in domain name registrations, with a 27 percent market share for last year," says Larry Bloch, CEO NetRegistry. Bloch added "this acquisition leverages NetRegistry's world-renowned clustered infrastructure for small business application hosting, which will be used to expand the range of services available to PlanetDomain customers to include offerings in high growth online marketing and advanced hosting services."
