Dell improves server performanceDecember 6, 2006 Computer vendor Dell announced yesterday that it has released two improved PowerEdge servers, the Dell PowerEdge 1950 and 2950. The new servers, which utilize Dell's Energy Smart technology to help lower power consumption and reduce overall operating costs are available now. Dell's new servers can deliver up to 25 percent greater performance per watt, while reducing power consumption by up to 24 percent, the company said in a statement. Dell added the enhancements can save hundreds of dollars per server every year resulting in a savings of millions of dollars per year in large data center deployments. Customers can also benefit from the smaller energy footprint these products can deliver to drive increased density in the data center by deploying four PowerEdge Energy Smart servers within the same "power envelope" occupied today by three standard servers. Brad Anderson, Dell's senior V.P. of product group said "our new PowerEdge Energy Smart servers, combined with Dell OptiPlex desktops and Dell's optimization services, partnerships and sustainability programs deliver on our commitment to drive energy-efficient solutions". Anderson added "these solutions increase performance and reduce power consumption from the desktop to the data center." The servers incorporate power-optimizing features such as low-flow fan technology and high-efficiency power supplies. The new servers also boast dual-core Intel Xeon low-voltage processors and factory integrated BIOS and unique component specifications designed for increased efficiency and air flow. Today, Dell's Linux and Windows servers are widely used by major hosting companies such as Avantex, Sun Hosting, Orange Web Hosting and Wholesale Web Hosting.ca. Source: The WHIR
