Web hosting company Verio announces it is currently developing its virtual private server (VPS) hosted service running Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 4.

Verios' new service will be available to customers and reseller partners worldwide in the fourth quarter, and will mark the company's first time fully supporting VPS services in the Linux environment.

Verio will announce Linux VPS at LinuxWorld, held on August 15 to 17 at San Francisco's Moscone Center, where it will exhibit and offer demonstrations and live test drive previews of the upcoming offering.

The new Linux VPS solution will leverage a virtualized managed Linux environment with partitioning technology, enabling customers to benefit from a full suite of managed services, account controls and applications, operating independently in the Linux environment, and at a competitive cost.

Developers and small businesses, says Verio, will receive reliability and dependable uptime with no bandwidth overage fees.

Meanwhile, businesses with smaller IT staffs will benefit from comprehensive server maintenance and management since Verio experts fully support the new Linux infrastructure, including managing data backups, server security and software updates.

"Verio made the decision to offer a Linux-based Web hosting solution, based on feedback from developers and other customers requiring solutions-oriented product offerings running on the Linux operating system," says Heather Boyer, director of product management for Verio.

"This extension of VPS to the Linux operating system will provide our customers and resellers another option and more hosting choices."
