Data center hardware developer Degree Controls announces that it
has released AdaptivCool, a technology it says can reduce data center
cooling expenses by 30 percent.
AdaptivCool is equipped with temperature sensors that send data to a thermal hub, which calculates cooling demands and then sends messages to data center fans.
Cool air is then directed to equipment in the facility that requires it, while hot air is returned back to the air conditioning unit.
The company says the solution solves one of the fundamental challenges of cooling data center racks - the mixing of cool and hot air. With controlled airflow, "hot spots" and temperature imbalances are eliminated, enabling data centers to save energy and decrease the chance of equipment failure.
The sensors also provide room condition updates and warn data center operators of potential problems.
The company says the solution is applicable in any raised floor data center. Installation does not require downtime or system upgrades.
