Data center automation software developer Opsware (www.opsware.com) said on
Tuesday that the satellite technology available with the recently released data
center automation solution Opsware System 4.5 is now available as an individual
appliance.
Opsware satellite technology allows the automation of servers hosted at branch offices and other remote locations, bringing them under the control of a single management console.
The Opsware Satellite Appliance is a single-CPU, Linux-based server. It allows customers to automatically provision, patch, configure, secure, change, scale, audit, recover, consolidate, migrate, and reallocate remote servers and applications, even over low-bandwidth connections.
According to Opsware, the appliance is ideal for organizations with several remote locations, such as branch offices, retail offices and other points of presence.
"Remote servers are the dark matter of IT, in some organizations making up the majority of managed servers.
Until recently, these servers have been unable to benefit from advances in data center management automation," says Tim Howes, chief technical officer and executive vice president of development at Opsware.
"Since introducing the Opsware Satellite, we've seen an increased demand for the technology. The Opsware Satellite Appliance further simplifies the procurement and installation process for customers."
The Opsware Satellite Appliance will be generally available in September.
