Trade group sues ICANN and VeriSign
A trade group calling itself The World of Domain Name Developers
has filed a lawsuit in federal court yesterday, alleging that a recent
settlement between ICANN and VeriSign over control of the .com domain
violates US anti-trust laws. Last month, ICANN and VeriSign reached a
settlement that allows for VeriSign to maintain control of the lucrative
.com registry until 2012.

.US domain extensions rising sharply
According to domain registrar Sedo.com, the overall
usage of .US domain extensions is rising rapidly, with various companies and organizations
switching to alternative top level domain (TLD) extensions rather than .com
extensions, in an effort to increase their online visibility with US
audiences.

Hosting provider SAVVIS said on Wednesday it has filed a request
with the Supreme Court of the state of New York to dismiss the claim filed

ICANN and the US cannot agree on anything
As scheduled, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) will be held
in Tunis later this week, and will last three days. During the summit, the world's
governments will decide for the first time what should be done with the Internet.
However, three days before the beginning of the conference, there will be discussions
on what constitutes the most controversial aspect of this entire ideology:
Internet governance. At issue is world news, stretching from the BBC to the
Washington Post, and to the China Post.

Hewlett-Packard unveils first Itanium blade server
According to reports, Hewlett-Packard will introduce today its first
blade server based on the Intel Itanium 2 processor. HP's new dual-processor BL60p
Intel-based server will enable customers to run HP-UX on blades for the
first time.
