Will IPv6 ever kick in? Europe is lagging nevertheless
Some time today, the U.S. federal government is expected to offer a long-awaited update on what it wants
to do with is IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) proposal. However,
government officials admit that meeting their much-heralded June 30 deadline for IPv6 compatibility is just the
beginning of a never ending fight to get their networks ready for the "new" Internet.

Hostopia being acquired by Deluxe
Hostopia and Deluxe Corp. said yesterday that they have entered into a definitive agreement for
Deluxe to acquire Hostopia, a provider of web hosting services that enable small and medium-sized
businesses to establish and maintain an Internet presence. Deluxe states that it will acquire
Hostopia in an all-cash transaction that values Hostopia at approximately CDN $124 million. Under
terms of the Merger Agreement, the company says that it will pay C$10.55 in cash for each outstanding
Hostopia common share.

Network Solutions makes a gutsy move towards ICANN
Domain registrar Network Solutions announced on today that it
will be supporting ICANN's proposal in applying a non-refundable 20 cent per-transaction ICANN fee to domain names deleted during the
Add Grace Period. ICANN says the small fee is applicable once the level of deletions exceeds 10 percent of a domain name registrar's
net new registrations in that given month.

The Planet suffers a major explosion of its data center
Dedicated hosting provider The Planet suffered a major explosion at 4:55 pm CST on Saturday at its
H1 data center in Houston, which led to an outage that affected approximately 9,000 servers and 7,500
customers. The explosion and accompanying fire knocked down three walls surrounding the facility's
electrical equipment room, as well as destroyed the underground cabling that powers the first floor
of the facility.
