Microsoft offers details on its new Iowa data center
Early this morning, Microsoft has revealed some details about its new Iowa data center, saying that it will be located in West Des Moines and cost about $500 million to design and build. The planning and construction of such a large project will take between one to one-and-a-half year, Microsoft general manager of data center services Michael Manos said. But this data center may take longer because it will feature Microsoft's next generation technology that will provide cutting-edge technology.

Microsoft issues 12 Windows security patches today
Microsoft said today it will deliver no less than twelve critical security updates later today, in an effort to repair critical security vulnerabilities in Windows, Office, Internet Explorer and the media player bundled with the Vista operating system. Of the twelve security updates it sketched out in the advance notification issued Aug.7, Microsoft pegged seven as "critical," its highest threat rating. The remaining five were labeled "important," the second-highest ranking.

IBM invests some serious money into cloud computing
IBM has announced that it plans to build a $360 million state-of-the-art cloud computing data centre in the Research Triangle Park facility in North Carolina. IBM said it has been planning the project for the past four months, and has now given it the green light. Big Blue intends to renovate an existing building within the RTP campus in order to create what it promises will be one of the most technologically advanced and energy efficient data centers in the world, and which will be the first to apply IBM's New Enterprise Data Centre design principles.
